Hi all! It has been some time since the last post I made while I was in Seoul. Seoul had been very wonderful and eventful except for the unpredictable summer weather. I really enjoyed my time there as a Summer Exchange Student in Sungkyunguan University (SKKU). University kiddos, if y'all are looking for an affordable Summer Programme, I would definitely suggest SKKU.  My total expenditure which included my school fees, accommodation, airfares, travelling within South Korea and all other touristy stuffs were capped at $5000 max. I still had a couple of hundreds left. So it's definitely very worth it. I'm planning a post on this exchange trip, so do keep a look out!

Coming back to the lovely W39 Bristro & Bakery; May and I have heard of it since forever and managed to find some time off to visit this lovely place. We ordered: Lunch Set D: Pan Fried Salmon ($21.90), Confit of Duck Leg ($19.50), a Cafe Latte ($4.50), a Mr Chocolate with Vanilla Ice Cream ($8.80), and an Apple Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream ($8.80). The bill was totaled at $69.85.
We have included the menu as follows.

Lunch Set D: Pan Fried Salmon:

  • Comes with a drink and soup of the day.
  • Chose a Honey Lemon drink and soup of the day was Carrot and Potato.
  • Soup was puree with potato bits. It served as a very good appetizer.
  • It was a pleasant surprise as this was not something you get as "the soup of the day" usually.
  • The salmon was very juicy and had a crispy finish.
  • The sauce accompanying the fish was savory and very delectable. It also goes very well with the mash.
  • The salad portion was reasonable, giving a balance to the dish.
  • Overall, it was an affordable lunch set!

Confit of Duck Leg:
  • Duck Confit came with a generous serving of creamy mash that complemented the duck.
  • Duck was well seasoned and the meat came off easily.
  • The only downside was that the meat was a little too tough.
  • The tomato in the salad was ripe, juicy, and baked to perfection.

Latte:

  • Well bodied.
  • Ratio of milk to coffee beans was just right!

Mr Chocolate with Vanilla Ice Cream:

  • Generous portion of moist chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.
  • The warm and rich chocolate sauce with cold vanilla ice cream was a good mix of flavours.

Apple Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream:
  • Portion was huge ass. Totally worth the $$$.
  • Apple cinnamon was gooooood.
  • Crumble was really sweet and crispy as they heated the pastry. You could actually do without the ice cream as there was enough sweetness. (It would have been cheaper too.)
  • The tart holding the filling and crumble could have been slightly thicker to provide more texture variation.

Note:
  • Reservations for weekend brunch can be made for 2 persons onwards. Timings are: 0900, 1100,  and 1300 respectively. Patrons will have to finish their food by 2 hours.
  • Lunch set meals are only available from Tue-Fri: 1130am - 1430pm.

Overall, May and I really enjoyed our trip to W39 Bristro & Bakery^^. We definitely wish to head back for Brunch and more desserts! Till our next post, ciao!

Contact Number: 6747 3839

Hello!!!!!!!!!! IT BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE ANYTHING HAS BEEN UPDATED ON THIS BLOG. HOW HAVE YOU ALL BEEN?!?!?!? To be very honest, the NOM review has been hanging for quite some time for both May&FJ. Exams were a torture but we are finally FREE! Instagram would tell you that! (This sounds so similar to the last post we've made)

Anyway, coming back to NOM, we actually visited this place to celebrate dear HY's birthday! It's located quite farrrrrr away from the city areas and quite hard to access. But we urge you not to be detered by this. The food and prices there are so worth the hunting down of this place!!!! Below are the menu photos.

We ordered: Iced Cookies and Cream Chocolate ($4.90), Hot Caramel Chocolate ($4.90), Hot Salted Caramel Chocolate ($4.90), Wild Mushroom Soup ($3.90), Slow Roast Bird Leg ($13.90), Half&Half Pizza ($16.90), Sweet Potato Fries ($5.90), and one Rainbow Salted Caramel Cake ($7.90). The bill totaled to: $63.20. That was about $21 for three people!

Drinks:
  • Iced Cookies&Cream Chocolate: was one of the popular drinks and I can see why. It was nice and had cookie bits in it! It was meg!
  • Hot Caramel Chocolate: It only had a tinge of caramel in it. Not thaaat sweet.
  • Hot Salted Caramel Chocolate: Slightly salted only. Chocolate is thick.

Wild Mushroom Soup:
  • Puree enough.
  • Portion worth the money! It was very reasonable.
  • They had onions inside, giving it extra flavour!

Slow Roast Bird Leg:
  • Their mash potato was made from REAL potatos grated into mash. (Some places give you the powered version which was ewwwww)
  • The potato skin inside the mash adds to its chewyness.
  • The chicken leg was slightly dry at certain parts.
  • But the combination of meat and cranberry sauce was ultz!

Half&Half Pizza:
  • We had smoked duck, and portebello.
  • They had loads of cheese in it. (Spammed)
  • Smoked duck was good. It was hidden under a layer of cheese.
  • The tomato did not go very well with the smoked duck and cheese.
  • The portabello pizza was a disappointment as the portabello was too thin and dry. It lacked the juiciness that portabello mushrooms are famous for.

Sweet Potato Fries:
  • It was very sweet as they dashed sugar over it.
  • The slices were fat.
  • It was a VERY addictive snack.

Rainbow Salted Caramel Cake:
  • For those peepos that said Coffee Daily has the best rainbow cake that costs $10. Wells, let us tell you something better. NOM has a better rainbow cake that costs only $7.90. That's almost $2 lesser than Coffee Daily. (Beat that. Hah!)
  • The cake was moist and soft, and it was not very sweet.
  • The cream came in a reasonable amount.
  • Better still, the presentation was ultz! (I heard that they DIY their logo on those pans)

So what are you waiting for? Should we further entice you by saying that all prices are nett? And that their service staff are excellent? Aboslutely lovely people. Head down to NOM soon!!!!!

Till more food to come.

HELLO :) How's the week been for you lovely people? I just came back from an impromtu trip to Sentosa and boy was it hot! Rode the skyride and the ludge. It was pretty fun ^^ hahahas, this week has been well spent!

May&FJ visited the Habitat Coffee awhile back to celebrate Joey's birthday^^ We thought we'd share a little about Habitat Coffee with you peeps for we absolutely love this darling little cafe.

We bought 2 Take Shitake Pasta ($12/each), 4 Cheesynara Pasta ($16/each), 1 Something Fishy Pasta ($14), 1 Ocean Linguine ($16), 1 Cappuccino Regular ($4.90), 1 Truffle fries ($8), 1 House-made Churros ($9), 1 Tiramisu and 1 Black Velvet Cake. I think we can safely say that the 8 us spent close to $150 that day.We have included the menu below, prices of cakes are not included.

Take Shitake Pasta:
  • They give you very generous amounts of juicy mushrooms.
  • The mushrooms were very well cooked and tasted great.
  • Black pepper was added into the pasta to give it more flavour.
  • Amount of olive oil included was reasonable.
  • This is one that I would personally recommend.

Cheesynara Pasta:
  • There was generous servings of cheese sausages. The sausages were oozing with melted cheesy goodness.
  • Bacon included in the pasta was not too salty.
  • The cream sauce won't make you feel soooo sick of it after eating a couple of mouthfuls.
  • Portion of dish was sufficient.

Something Fishy Pasta:
  • It is essentially tuna pasta.
  • The black pepper gave extra flavour to the pasta.
  • Overall not a bad dish, but we felt it's a dish that can be easily made without much of a hassle at home. $14 is a tat too expensive for it.

Ocean Linguine:
  • Comes with 5 fresh looking prawns and 2 mussels.
  • My friend only had one thing to say about this: "Not filling enough for me leh."

Truffle Fries:
  • Many of my friends could not appreciate the "gas taste" of the truffle oil.
  • Personally, it was okay and very yummy^^
  • The portion was reasonable for $8 paid.

Home-made Churros:
  • Nicely made.
  • Tastes even better with the chocolate sauce.

Tiramisu:
  • Liquor blended really well with the tiramisu.
  • Could not really taste the cheese.
  • Portion wise: reasonable.

Black Velvet Cake:
  • The name itself sounded really unique.
  • It's just coffee cake with cream cheese.
  • The cake it spongy. I like it's texture.

Cappuccino:
  • Pretty coffee art.
  • Does not have the acidic after coffee taste as said by Maymay.
  • Medium bodied.

Overall Advantages:
  • No service charge or GST.
  • The food prices are reasonable!
Overall Disadvantages:
  • The place is rather tiny so do make your reservations before hand. (I called 4 days in advance to make mine for it's for a big group)
Note:
  • They are close on Mondays.
  • Brunch for weekdays end at 1730pm. (That's why we have not gotten the chance to try it.)
Habitat Coffee is a really awesome place. It's rather inaccessible though; but we'd do anything for good food^^ Have you peoples visited Habitat Coffee? Let us know your views too alrights!

(The whole bunch of us^^)
Till next time!

***Update on: 16/06/2014

Hello! Habitat Coffee has been my recent hangout these two weeks. Thought I'd update you peepos on the stuffs I have tried there!

Firstly: Changes to the menu, they do not have Waffles Sunrise anymore.

I had The Shrooms ($12):

  • Consists of: two poached eggs, large portion of sauteed mushrooms, two slices of Brioche and Salad.
  • The eggs were well done!
  • The sauteed mushrooms was the ultz! You should give anything mushroom at Habitat Coffee a go!

Apple Cinnamon Pancakes ($10):
  • Consists of: three thick fluffy pancakes, caramelized apples and raisins, and slices of raw apples.
  • The pancakes were fluffy and nice. It is rather filling although the portion looks otherwise.
  • The portion of caramelized apples and raisins was good! And every bite tasted like heaven!
  • This is something I would definitely try again when I am back!

I also had their flavoured coffee: Iced Macadamia Coffee ($6.90). They really have good coffee! Its something you peeps have to try when you are there!
 (Iced Macadamia Coffee)

That's all for the updates lovelies! Weather's hot! Do remember to stay hydrated!

Hi Lovelies <3 Chinese New Year is coming! Looking forward to a load of red packets coming your way? For those giving red packets, looking forward to making a child smile? (Wells, kiddos at the age 20 are still considered a child when it comes to CNY) I know I am looking forward to wearing a nice dress out to meet people :) Remember not to catch a sore throat with all the eating of CNY goodies! Drink loads of Vitamin C daily during this period!

May&FJ went to Cups N Canvas awhile back and boy weren't we amazed with the interior decor! It was sooooo prettay! Here are some pictures!

We ordered a Pan Seared Dory with Corn Salsa ($9.90), Blanc Bacon ($15.90), Sweet Potato Latte ($4.80), Latte ($4.80) and French Apple Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream ($6.50). We have spent about $39.80 in total.
We have included the menu here.

Pan Seared Dory with Corn Salsa:

  • The corn salsa was very fresh, together with onions, tomatoes and corn, the combination was amazing! I am not a corn lover, but in general was this was good!
  • Salad was fresh. It was accompanied by a good sauce.
  • The dory fish was very well grilled. It was very fresh and very very very juicy! I can't stress how juicy it was!
  • The salsa with the fish is a very interesting combination. The corn provides the sweetness and the fish gives the salty tastes. Very good!

Blanc Bacon:
  • Generous servings of bacon & mushrooms.
  • Bacon was just right, it was not too salty.
  • Cream sauce was not too much. You won't get too sick after eating it.
  • Mushrooms were juicy!!
  • There was a 10% promotion for pasta and drink. Hence we paid about $18.65 for both the pasta and latte.

Latte:
  • Nice coffee art.
  • There was sufficient froth.
  • It wasn't too bitter. There was a right amount of coffee to milk ratio.
  • It doesn't have the acidic after taste

Sweet Potato Latte:
  • No caffeine included.
  • It was a very very unique latte that required an acquired taste bud.
  • It was very thick and there was real sweet potato included.
  • It was very milky.
  • Personally, it's not something I'd order again for it was too milky for my liking. I'd prefer if it came in a coffee base instead of milk.

French Apple Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream:
  • It actually comes with a mango sauce which provided a slightly sour.
  • There was a generous amount of apples inside the cake. The apples layer the cake. It's like a layer of cake, no top of that a layer of apples, a layer of cake, a layer of apples and so forth.
  • There was a faint cinnamon taste in the cake.
  • They were also very generous with the amount of Vanilla Ice Cream.
  • The cake was light and moist. Together with the Vanilla Ice Cream, it was awesome <3
  • This is one cake I'd personally recommend! It was soooooooo good.

Cups N Canvas was honestly a good experience. May&FJ really enjoyed our time there and we had a good long conversation talking about almost anything. It's a good place for gatherings. There are no additional GST and service charges

Have you been to Cups N Canvas? Do share your experiences with us:) We'd love to hear from you lovely people!

(Pictures of pretty may ^^ )
That's all for now! Till the next food post :)
