HOWDY MATES!!! It's been a looooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggg time since MAY&FJ updated this space! Forgive us!!!! School's been a KILLER~not a fan of my current school hours but that's a story for another day!

Getting back to our main topic: Food, MAY&FJ visited this little restaurant at Amoy Street just yesterday! At maximum capacity, this restaurant can ONLY hold 30 patrons. So you could imagine how lucky we were to be able to get seats during lunch hour!

We were greeted by the cooling air conditioner and Taylor Swift's "Sparks Fly" sounded in the air. It was a rather cosy place. We got seats at the sushi bar and had first hand view on how the sushi and sashimi were prepared. We were rather impressed. We ordered a TFS Chirashi Set ($23), a Salmon and Ikura Don ($18), and 2 cups of Japanese Tea ($5/each). Our bill totaled to $51. As usual we have included the menu here.

Salmon & Ikura Don:

  • Generous Servings of Salmon & Ikura
  • Fresh and thick slices of Sashimi!!
  • Ikura was very fresh! It pops in your mouth with a slight saltiness!
  • The price included a serving of fruits. The watermelon and honeydew were really sweet and juicy.
  • It's a set that's value for money!
  • However, the rice was not sticky enough. (Maybe it lacked vinegar)

TFS Chirashi:
  • What's inside: Lettuce Salad, 2 slices of Tamago, loads of Ikura, 2 slices of Swordfish, 1 Scallop, 2 slices of Sashimi, 2 Ebi, 1 slice of Tuna, 1 slice of Octopus, 1 huge chunk of Eel.
  • The lettuce salad has this very unique sesame sauce that was very appetizing!
  • Tamgo was awesome! It has this sweet taste to it that would not make you sick! And the slices are rather thick!
  • Ikura was fresh! It bursts in your mouth!
  • The Swordfish wasn't as chewy as I expected it to be, but it was nonetheless good.
  • The Scallop was smooth! I could only wish that there was more of it in the bowl.
  • As for the Sashimi, it literally melts in your mouth. That was how good it was!
  • The Ebi was sweet and Q!
  • The single slice of Tuna was a surprise. For it has this interesting texture to it. But it's rather bloody.
  • The Octopus was another surprise. It's so fresh in the sense that its sooooo chewy but it's not hard for you to swallow. We have came across some octopus that were just sooooooooo soooooo difficult to swallow and we had to chew like a million times.
  • For the main highlight! The Eel!! As  we sat infront of the sushi bar, we could see how our food was made. This eel was toasted and then lightly grilled! The skin was slightly sticky, and together with the sauce added on the eel, it tasted great!
  • This is great for the peeps who want a variety!
  • However, the rice for this wasn't sticky enough!

Overall Advantages:
  • Prices are Nett.
  • The service staffs were all really nice and friendly!
(The fruit salad that came with both meals)

Overall Disadvantages:
  • We didn't know that tea ain't complementary! But no worries, there wasn't much cognitive dissonance for it's presentation was rather nice and the tea tasted good.

Overall we had a great experience at the Flying Squirrel! This is definitely one place MAY&FJ would recommend you peeps to check out! Because they have a space constraint, we'd advice you to make a reservation especially if you intend to come in big groups!
