Hi all!!!! Once again, May&FJ are back with a food review! It's been a long wait and the both of us have been spending some quality holiday time ourselves which consists of: slacking, shopping, sleeping and nonetheless: eating!
There are really so much to eat and endless things to say when it comes to eating. Oh yeah, we know we have spoken up for many of the food fanatics out there! But who's to blame? Food is always a source of comfort and stress reliever! This is one of the reasons May&FJ decided to start up the blog! We are very thankful to you readers who have been viewing our blogs! Do keep on reading! It's never a waste of time to click on our blog to check out on our food happenings!

So here we go! We'll start with this sentence: Who says Marina Bay Sands (MBS) only caters to the upper half of the population with expensive food so expensive that you just feel so guilty on spending it? They do cater to people with reasonable budgets as well. We can almost just hear: Yeah, they did so, that's why there's a hwaker center there all glam-ed up just to suit the style of MBS. Nope, that's not it! Bay Sushi is here to offer you Japanese Food that would not make you pay through your nose just to have it in MBS.

Bay Sushi is a subsidiary of Todai (The one that serves King Crab legs as part of their buffet menu). They are located at the far end at B2 of MBS, just beside each other. You can always check out the exact direction with the lovely concierge there. But our first experience did not start on a happy note. When we reached there, there was no serving staff to bring us to available seats and hence we decide to browse on menu first. We had to wait for sometime and some noise making (ie. slight noises on why is there nobody who can bring us in? Do we have to barge in?) before a manager appeared from the back and asked if we wanted to enter. He also kindly brought their affordable lunch sets to our attention. With that done, we were settled at the bar counter as the house was full! (most likely due to the lunch sets they are offering)

We had : Triple Salmon Roll ($12), Golden Spider Roll ($11) and a Cold Soba lunch set ($15). The bill totaled to $41.02. We have included the menu here as usual!

Triple Salmon (4 Slices):

  • The presentation was absolutely lousy with the salmon roe falling everywhere and the cucumber jutting out. (We chose a really nice angle to cover up the mess)
  • But if you care less for the presentation, the whole slice together with the unagi sauce actually tastes quite good.
  • You can differentiate the seared salmon and the raw salmon taste and it's really good!
  • They give you generous amounts of cucumber and there is a strip of onion that adds to its savory tastes!
  • Also the salmon roe is fresh and it bursts in your mouth!
  • However, we feel that the raw salmon slice is slightly thin. Could have been slightly thicker. But you get what you pay for.

Soba Set Meal:
  • The salad is very appetizing thanks to the salad sauce they used!
  • The salmon slices are thick and fresh!
  • Batter for the fried stuff is slightly salty and it's kinda thick for May's liking!
  • The fried stuff consists of: Pumpkin, Sweet Potato and Prawn. We liked the Pumpkin one and the sauce provided as the dip is rather flavorful as well!
  • As for the cold soba, the sauce provided is rather tasteless. It is not as salty as it was supposed to be. Or rather, after dipping the noodles into the sauce, the taste of the sauce is lost half way in the midst of chewing the noodles and you'll end up tasting the raw taste of the noodle which is rather ewww.
  • The soba itself also lacks the bouncy and Q feeling. It is rather limp.
  • The Chawanmushi given is smooth and it comes with a Japanese fishcake and a prawn.

Golden Spider Roll:
  • The sauce captures most of your tastes buds. It is sweet, sour and spicy. Feels a little Thai-ish like those sauce with have with tofus in Thai restaurants.
  • It is fried and hence very crispy.
  • You can taste a the crab meat faintly and end with the taste of the soft shell crab. It is overall a very good combination!

Overall, with the exception of having to request for spoons for the Chawanmushi which they forgot to give, it's a rather fine experience. We recommend that you lovelies to try the lunch sets as it makes your money worth! (Maybe you should keep the Soba set off when considering, the rest seemed great from the reaction of the fellow patrons of the restaurant)

Note:
  • GST and Service Charge is included
  • POSB Everyday card gets a 10% off on A la carte
With this, we end our post! Thank you lovelies~! We love you all! Take care alrights! Weather these few days are rather weird. Till next time, ciao!

Jo In Sung (Fan Meet)

Hi everyone! This is a personal post, but I'd thought I share it with you all especially to the K-Drama fans out there! I attended Jo In Sung's fan meet today!!!! <3 I have heard about this man through the word of mouth for his handsome and charismatic smile, and of cos his acting! Being a fan of the K world and plus exams were over, I decided to head down to get a view of the A list star from Korea as well!

He was invited to Singapore to do a press conference on his newest show: That winter, The Wind Blows. It's gonna be airing once more on S-One Channel (can subscribe to MioTV or Starhub for it) in Singapore with Chinese and Malay dual sound as well from 1st June 2013 at 3.15pm on Saturdays and Sundays! I gotta be honest, I haven't watched this drama yet. But after this meet and greet and reading a couple of reviews of it, I'm definitely gonna catch it! Where else but on the S-One Channel?

He had the fan meeting session at Suntec City during the night. You should have seen the amount of people who attended the event as well! It was flooded with all his fans whom vary in age. He came dressed in full white together with leather brown sandals. It was an awesome outfit that fits the resort theme that the fashion world is dishing out for the 2013 Resort Collections.  Host: Pei Fen described him as a knight in shiny armor. Rather, I think he's a knight in white armor with this gleam of light surrounding him. (Or maybe it's just the spotlight, haha)

I gotta say that the fan meeting session was rather short with Jo doing a mini interview first (I recorded it just in case you all are interested! It's rather shaky though, forgive me. You can view it here), then a small judging session on which is the best pair which reenacted the cotton candy scene? (6 pairs where chosen in advance before his arrival and it was narrowed down to 3 based on the audience's clapping. Personally, my favourite was that Taiwan couple for they were so cute and sweet. But sadly they did not win.)

(Here's my favourite couple, they are a REAL couple)

He also did some photo taking with 10 lucky viewers from MioTV and Starhub. With the photos snapped and him doing more waves and smiles, the fan meet session came to a close with him making a closing speech to all his fans. He told his fans that while the time is short, he tried to make eye contact with every single one whom was there today. But sadly, he knows that he couldn't have managed to reach everyone. But he hopes that he'd have a longer stay the next time he comes Singapore and hopes to spend more time with his fans!

(Side hugs and back hugs, doesn't it make you wanna win that contest?!?!)

Wells, I really did enjoy my day today, it's like a great start for my holidays as I have just ended my papers on the 21st. Can't wait to live my life, like literally! I am sure those studying will understand what I mean. Love you all as always! I can't wait to bring you guys more fun stuffs like this and of cos more FOOD!

Oh yeah! My friend's gonna do the cover for this media conference! Do keep a look out for it on: http://girlinsorea.wordpress.com/

Till the next post lovelies:)

YAMADA RESTAURANT & SUSHI BAR

Location: 2 Marina Boulevard The Sail @ Marina Bay #B1-08
How to go: Raffles Place MRT Exit J (Its at the financial center)
Opening hours: 11am - 2200 pm daily
Contact number: 62277648

Hi everyone!!!!! I couldn't wait for exams to end to post this so I have decided to churn this out now  before I sleep and study again the next day! Yes, if you have seen the teaser, it was May's birthday on Tuesday and we celebrated (a decoy celebration) at Yamada Restaurant & Sushi Bar! It wasn't where we intended to go at first, but since the restaurant we wanted to go was undergoing renovations, this was our next "on the spot" option and boy weren't we pleased.

Let me start by saying that we had an accounting paper earlier that day and I told May that we should celebrate her birthday at least (to prevent her from going home). Yes, my friends and I cooked up a surprise for her at her house so we definitely don't want her home till 7ish! Hence I had the job to ensure quality time was spent before we surprise her.

Okay so we reached Yamada and saw a sign that prints: BUFFET eat all you can from 6pm-9pm. We were kinda put off cos we were there at about 4pm so we were far from the time to enjoy the buffet. But the staff told us that we could still enjoy the 3 hours buffet for the same price: $39.90 ++ which translated to about $47/person when you add the GST and service charges. It's kinda high in price from what we have always offered in our blog, but it is afterall for a 21st celebration and hence we were willing to splurge a little bit more. We've included the menu here as usual!

Sashimi Platter:

  • We had 10 slices of Salmon, 10 slices of Swordfish and 10 slices of Cold Shrimp. (The staff repeated the orders thrice in slight disbelief just to reconfirm; yes we eat too and after an exam? We eat more, that's all.)
  • Needless to say, all the fishes and the shrimps were fresh!
  • The swordfish and the cold shrimp were sweet but they leave a slight raw after taste.
  • Swordfish was Q!!!
  • We both love the Salmon sooooo much!!

Salmon Salad:
  • I am bent on having vegetables in every meal (Everyone who knows that calls me a rabbit for that reason)
  • It tastes like Yu Sheng actually. The sauce is very appetizing and it makes the whole salad soooo tasty!
  • The garlic bits added to the flavour!
  • They gave a good amount of salmon in it! (I mean for the price of the buffet they really have to)

Tempura:
  • Batter is fine, not too thick (Not consistent in thickness though)
  • But it was yumz in any case as any fried can't go wrong too far.

Stir Fried Pork:
  • Very good! It's not too oily and it smells sooooooooooo great!
  • They stir fry pork with alot of vegetables. Naturally, being three quarters a herbivore I wolfed down all the vegetables; May and I shared the pork.
  • There is a slight peppery taste in it too!

Chawanmushi:
  • It feels a little too firm for Chawanmushi. Normal ones melt, this one's slightly firm
  • Also, it tasted sweet rather than salty!

Age Deshi Tofu:
  • We ordered Cold Tofu actually, but we got this in the end-.-
  • I don't have much to complain cos I liked it! It was smooth and silky and I love it warm together with its chewy skin. (But May prefers her tofu cold so yeaps)

Overall Advantages:
  • The service staff was polite. She knows her menu well and refilled the tea without prompting.
  • Food quality was good and the ambiance was quiet, but I am pretty sure that was due to the time which draws no crowd.

Overall Disadvantages:
  • Apart for the wrong order, we have none to speak off.

We would say that Yamada is definitely one to visit if you wanna have a nice and enjoyable buffet. I think we ate more than $94 worth! It's rather small a restaurant, so if you intend to hit over during dining hours, I suggest you make a reservation just in case!

That's all for the decoy celebration we had for May's 21st! I have to say that it was a splendid and successful one! YAY! Love you all! Till next time! Ciao!
