Hi people!!!!!! How's it going? Yeaps, May&FJ visited Mu Parlour today! It's a cafe with a tinge of vintage style. Art pieces were plastered on each walls and they have different types of chairs and tables for you to choose to rest your legs on. With music that sounds from the 70s-80s era, we would say that this is one cafe that gives you a hell of an atmosphere. Mu Parlour serves brunch, burgers and booze as advertised. Since we visited in the afternoon, only the brunch and burgers seemed applicable.

After we found an awesome seat, we browsed the menu and ordered a Mu Breakfast ($16) and decided to top up for a cup of tea and a dessert ($9), after that we got ourselves a burger no 1. ($15). The bill totaled to a $44. As usual, we have included a menu right here for you all!

Mu Breakfast:

  • It consists of: Poached Eggs, Spicy Pork and Veal Sausage, Streaky Bacon, Brioche, Greens and Garlic Fries.
  • The Garlic Fries were really good. It's very aromatic and it tastes awesome! The fries were crispy!
  • They give you very generous serving of the garlic bits too!
  • The Spicy Port and Veal Sausage was not bad. It's slightly spicy. But they only give you half a slice-.- (That's just a turnoff, is the economy that bad?)
  • The Poached Eggs were HORRIBLE. They were overcooked. (May estimates that the Chef may have done it for a minute toooooooooo long) SERIOUSLY?! Gave a feedback to the service staff and we got a "Oh? Okay, I will let the Chef know." with a big smile.
  • There was also toooooo much Hollandaise Sauce on the Poached Eggs. We were wondering why, but after tasting, the eggs answered for itself; too much vinegar. Hence they tried to use the Hollandaise Sauce to cover up the taste. (sneaky Chef)
  • The Brioche was like hard on one side and soggy on the other side. I have no better way of describing it. Why? Cos eggs were soaked with too much vinegar? I have no idea.
  • To top with that, the presentation was rather messy for May's liking.

No 1 Burger:
  • Consists of: Beef Patty, Monterey Jack Cheese, Streaky Bacon and Gherkin. Every burger ordered comes with: lettuce, tomatoes and pickles
  • The beef patty was moist and juicy. (This is good as some places have very dry beef patties)
  • The pickles were well done!
  • The bacon provided the savory taste.
  • The cheese was light.

Lemon Meringue:
  • Mmmmmm, the lemon taste was good!
  • The crust was JUST right! (I'd prefer a thicker crust, but that's just a personal preference)
  • The whipped cream together with caster sugar gave a very interesting crunchy sensation.
  • We would say that that this dessert had an equal balance of sweet and sour tastes.

Earl Grey Tea:
  • Tastes good without any sugar in it.
  • It was said to be a natural brew. (But I mean, tea leaves are natural aren't they?)

Overall Advantages:
  • Great atmosphere. Something that we cannot deny.
  • Service staff had the initiative to provide us 2 plates and even asked if we would prefer dessert to be served during or after the meal.
  • We gotta say their desserts look great.
  • I love the fact that they have fresh Orchids on every table. Just staring at them makes you feel at ease.
  • They also have this huge glass window that shows you the hustle and bustle of Holland Village.

Overall Disadvantages:
  • The Brunch was a huge put off~we would definitely not give their brunch another go if we ever visit there again.
  • I also get the feeling that the staff do not really enjoy having customers to linger. She was rather prompt in clearing our plates and slowly urging us towards our dessert.

Note:
  • Only Service Charge is included.
  • If you wish to add on either coffee/tea and a dessert for $9, it is only applicable to the Burger Set and Mu Breakfast only.
  • According to the staff, Chef's Recommendation for the burgers are numbers: 1, 11 and 29.
  • Dessert prices range from: $8-$9.

As time flies, the music slowly switched to an upbeat as this petite cafe prepares to welcome the night crowd. Overall, May&FJ would say that the price for food is reasonable, get the burgers not the brunch and try the desserts. Of cos, it'd be best if the food could match up the atmosphere. But how often can we get the best of both worlds without paying the price?

Whatup yo! How's this week been going for you lovely people? Hope the week's been passing smoothly for you all!  May&FJ's introducing you all to this amazing Japanese restaurant situated in CBD area in Singapore! Dear May came here once and told me that this is one place worth coming for the food and price as they are very generous in their servings! Apparently this restaurant's opened by a Japanese who brought back tastes closest to the ones you get in Japan!

It took both of us forever to locate this restaurant as neither of us were familiar with this area~there's just too many hidden caches! But, the 'miles' we've walked were definitely worth it. We were greeted by the Japanese Chef himself and led to our seats by one of their staffs. We ordered a Chirashi Sushi ($25) and a Yakiniku Set ($20) and the bill totaled to about $52.95. I have included the menu right below here so you guys can check it out.

Chirashi Sushi :
Comes with:

  • Chawanmushi (chicken, mushroom and Japanese fishcake)
  • Miso Soup
  • 2 slices of Oranges

Ingredients:
  • Sushi rice topped with seaweed strips
  • Salmon
  • Hamachi (Yellow Tail)
  • Majuro Akami (Red Tuna)
  • Red Snapper
  • Ebi
  • Kani Stick (Crab Meat)
  • Tamago
  • Sword  Fish
  • Topiko (Flying Fish) Roe
  • Sakura Denbo (Shredded fish flakes)

Comments:
  • All sashimi were very fresh!!
  • They gave very generous servings of Salmon
  • Topiko was very fresh! They BURST in your mouth!
  • The Tuna did not leave a bloody taste unlike those that we've usually tried.
  • The Kani Stick's super sweet
  • Tamago was very sweet and milky~more milky than usual, interesting!
  • The Sakura Denbo was slightly savory and sweet! It has a texture similar to candy floss according to May!
  • The Sword Fish was firm, Q and sweet! Awesome!

Yakiniku Set:
Comes with:

Mini Soup:
  • Consists of: Half a boiled egg, 2 Japanese fishcakes, Broccoli, Radish and a piece of Steamed Chicken
  • The soup is sweet with the essence of radish in it! AWESOME starter really!
  • Japanese fishcakes were really great!
  • Chicken is slightly dry, but it's fine as the taste of the soup makes up for it!

Sushi Plate:
  • Consists of: Salmon, Tuna and Yellow Tail sashimi. (about 9 slices)
  • The Salmon was heavenly! Absolutely great!
  • Tuna and Yellow Tail were not as bloody as I thought it'd be. Good for me for I tend to avoid bloody sashimi~
  • I do not see why I shouldn't say that the sashimi's UBER fresh again :)

Beef Plate:
  • Not too oily compared to those you eat at Kopitiam.
  • It's full of carrots, cabbage and onions! (All my favourite vegetables in one set!)
  • Amount of beef is reasonable, but it was slightly dry.
  • The sauce was tasty! Makes you eat non-stop and crave for more even though you're done with the plate!

Chawanmushi:
  • Smoooooooooooooth~
  • The ingredients do not cover the eggy taste! Just the way May loves it^^

Miso Soup:
  • Filled with tofu chunks, seaweed and spring onion! Unlike some restaurants that give you like a few pieces of tofu and a few strips of seaweed-.-

Overall Advantages:
  • We were very happy with the service staffs! The service they provide was really tip top when we were there.
  • We were served hot towels when we sat down and before we left. (I really love this gesture, reminds me dearly of Japan)
  • One of the service staffs even had the initiative to draw another chair for May to put her bag on.
  • They have loads of patience especially with us as we asked for a detailed description of the types of sashimi in our meal and they really went through one by one with us.
  • The Yakiniku set came rather quickly, but we had to wait awhile for the Chirashi Sushi.
  • They refill your Japanese Tea rather often.
  • The portions are really HUGE! Your tummy will be filled to the brim if you ever managed to finish every single thing including the rice.
  • They provide you a variety in the set meal so that you get to try a bit of everything and hence the price is worth every single cent of it.

Over Disadvantages:
  • So far, NONE that we can pin point.
Note:
  • GST and Service Charges applies.
  • It's best to make a reservation for lunch hours, it's PACKED.
May&FJ highly recommend you people to visit Botan Japanese Restaurant! Trust us! You'll NEVER regret going there ever. It's a one of a kind experience and the food's great! GO GO GO!!! Till next time lovelies!

SEOUL YUMMY

Location: Bugis + Level 4 (Next to Poulet)
How to get there: Bugis Mrt Station
Opening hours: none stated at Bugis + website, none stated on the name card i took and none stated at their official website-.-
Contact Number: 65096900

Hey all!! How's it going this week? It's been a pretty hectic week for me! CRAZY would be a better word to describe it! So what better than to relax and chill with food? :D This review's  actually on a subsidiary of Kim Dae Mun Korean Food & Beverages.

Here's introducing Seoul Yummy which provides an awesome lunch deal for you peeps here at the Bugis Plus outlet! This was the only reason that got me started on this review. Deals; where your pockets will feel lighter but not much as it's cheaper and your tummy will feel full and delighted without feeling shortchanged!

You wouldn't miss this restaurant. Not with its fancy high tech decor surrounding the restaurant itself or the multi mini TVs playing different Korean MVs on different screens or the tables filled with quizzes on Korean artistes or the wall filled with different Korean artistes names. (I spotted Big Bang and 2NE1, and I stop my search ^^)

Okay! Jumping straight into the topic, my friend and I have decided on a Spicy Chicken Soup ($11.99), Japchae ($11.99) and 2 add ons ($3.99 each): Kimchi Pancake and Fried Pork Mandu. Our bill totaled to: $37.62. The lunch special menu is included here.

Spicy Chicken Soup:
  • Sweet
  • Chili flakes here provide the spicy taste.
  • Chicken is well marinated!
  • Vegetable is provided: Xiao Bai Cai (My favourite!!)
  • Toufu texture is kinda hard
  • Overall this dish feels normal. It feels like something you can get in Kopitiam except that it's in a larger portion.

Japchae:
  • Smooth and Q!
  • Spicy! (Different from the one I've tried in Hanwoori)
  • The spiciness and sesame taste makes this dish very flavorful!
  • Also, the taste goes very well with the vegetables given!
  • Don't judge the book by its cover, it only looks small~but it's rather filling.

Fried Pork Mandu:
  • Crispy
  • Strong peppery taste
  • Goes very well with the sauce they've provided!
  • Pork filling contains glass noodles too!

Kimchi Pancake:
  • Goes very well with the sour sour and slightly salty sauce provided!
  • Soft, has onions inside!
  • But it's kinda flat, it would have been better if they could have thicken it~

Side Dishes:
  • The kimchi we tried was too sour :/ (i prefer kimchi with a slightly sweet taste instead of sour)
  • But their ikan bilis is good! Salty and spicy goes wells with Korean food any day!
  • They have this toufu in chili sauce, that's awesome too!

Barley Tea:
  • We had hot Barley Tea that tastes just as bad as the one at Sarang-.- (Guess it was meant to taste like caffeine water)

Advantages:
  • The place blasts Korean music! So all Korean fans, here's a must go!
  • Food comes rather quickly.
  • It's actually rather filling, we did not manage to finish all of it~
Disadvantages:
  • It's kinda cramped between table to table.
Note:
  • Lunch Special is from: 1100am - 1700pm as told by one of their staffs.
  • GST and Service Charge is included.
Overall, I feel that Seoul Yummy is a place to dine when they offer reasonable deals like this one here. They are actually promoting their Army Stew too which costs more than $40 :O Wells, it's kinda high for me so yeaps, it's better to nomz here with deals!
So when you peeps decide to hit Seoul Yummy, go for their lunch deals! Till next time!
